ABOUT OUR DOGS
Redwood Trails dogs are medium to large breed (65+lb), all off-leash and all very happy dogs. I enjoy using a variety of nature’s playgrounds and provide only positive reinforcement and force free handling methods while always keeping the human’s safety top priority. If your dog is not yet off-leash, we can help you achieve this. Our groups are comprised of, at anytime:
• Dogs currently enrolled in Redwood Trails Training Services.
• Graduates of our Training program who have opted to stay on for continued learning and enrichment.
• Experienced, well trained and socialized dogs, used as assistant trainers during individual training and writing group adventures.
• Dogs with special needs and require the guidance, confidence and expertise beyond most dog walkers.
• Dogs who may’ve been incompatible in other groups, yet thrive with large dogs.
ABOUT OUR CLIENTS
Redwood Trails clients are dog enthusiasts who strive for the very best for their furry companions including seeking out new adventures and challenges for their family member’s mind and body. When their environment or developmental stages influence their behavior, it’s difficult to manage and it can be frustrating, embarrassing or scary at times. We can help now and over time as undesirable behaviors arise in your dog – we’ll be on hand.
ABOUT ADOLESCENT DOGS:
Just like we have challenges during major life transitions such as puberty, Saturn’s Return, menopause, mid-life revolutions and retirement, dogs go through their own major transition: Adolescents or their “Teenage Years” and this is when your puppy turns into an adult dog.
Adolescence in dogs typically begins around 6-12mo and depending on the dog, can last until age 2 and in some cases, with larger dogs, through 4 yrs old. During this time, there are dramatic hormonal changes and a reorganization of the brain.
It then makes sense that your dog may require some dedicated time to help eliminate harmful or embarrassing situations while reinforcing the already acceptable behaviors and learned skills while developing new behaviors that will support your dog’s growth into the next phase of doggy adulthood.
During this developmental stages is crucial to have patience, kindness and understanding with your dog and yourself. This is a challenging time for you both and it’s highly recommended to add knowledgeable resources to help you remain consistent, happy and having fun with your dog! Great job in accomplishing step 1: making the decision to seek help with your dog’s enrichment & development!
